ABOUT BARRY PILATES
Barry Pilates
Barry Pilates is all about using exercise to take care of ourselves. It’s not about pushing through pain, its more of a no pain, everything to gain form of exercise. Working with our bodies rather than against.
At Barry Pilates, we have many Pilates classes suitable for lots of different people and abilities. We use the exercise to help you to work on your flexibility, strength, core muscles and balance. It is also a lovely way to relax and enjoy a peaceful hour within our friendly Pilates community.
We use Pilates to help people live and age well, using it to help both mental and physical health. I see it as an antidote to modern life and in class we take time to stretch and mobilise the muscles and joints that get tight from too much sitting, desk work, watching telly to name but a few. We also spend time strengthening and working on our core, pelvic floor and whole body strength and balance. Not to forget helping the body rebalance and recover from injury. And maybe most importantly, we keep moving.
Sharon
I’m Sharon Sylvester a health and exercise professional and I am the founder of Barry Pilates. I love helping people to feel healthy, fit and active as much now as when I started my journey in 2006.
I have an extremely in-depth understanding of how the body works as I am also a practicing osteopath and university teacher. I have been teaching Pilates and exercise for 12 years and have helped hundreds of people feel better. I also know what it feels like to come back from injury having sustained serious shoulder and back injuries having spent a lifetime with horses.
I love to keep learning and am currently studying for a masters in exercise medicine with the University of Chester. I am always looking to improve my knowledge of exercise and Pilates and attend courses regularly. I am a level 3 YMCA Pilates teacher and an Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates teacher. I love encouraging people to move, the title of my masters gives it all away for me – exercise medicine.
